Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, Erection of a federation of religious institutes and provinces, 2005, Private.

The Sisters of _______ in the United States of America are represented by twenty-two religious institutes and five provinces representing two institutes whose generalates are not located in this country. The major superiors of these institutes petitioned the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life for the erection of their Federation as a public juridic person in the Church, in accord with canon 582 of the Code of Canon Law. Since the early 1960s, these institutes, who have the same founder and patrimony, have had Statutes and met annually to share how best to live the spirituality and mission of their consecrated life. Due to the scarcity of vocations, one of their primary purposes in seeking the canonical erection of the Federation was to have a common novitiate in which to form the novices from the various institutes in the charism and common life of the institutes.

The following cover letter and Decree were sent from the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life to the Executive Director of the Federation.
